Following our successful – reasonably – hurling campaign, we were drawn against Ballintleva NS in the Div 4 final of the Michael Kelly section. 24 hours after our girls had claimed the county camogie title on a wet and windy Wednesday, our boys took to the field on a fine, dry Thursday, again in Four Roads.
We started well, with Mícheál Hussey going immediately on the attack, only to drive the ball wide. From the resultant puckout, however, he won the ball and drove it into the back of the net to set us on our way. Scores followed from Michael Harrington, who was proving a thorn in the side of the Ballintleva defence and Conor Harris, while at the other end, Dylan Conlon and Jack Cuddy were resolute in their defensive duties. Despite their best efforts, unfortunately, Ballintleva did manage to score a goal before half time.
In the second half, further scores from Dylan Conlon and Eoghan Murray stretched our lead, while substitutes Rowan Davies and Tyrone Brogan both made telling contributions. With minutes left on the clock, goalkeeper William Brandon made a superb save to keep the Ballintleva attack at bay. At the final whistle, the sizable crowd of Lisaniskey supporters cheered noisily, as they celebrated their second triumph in 2 days.
Captain Mícheál Hussey accepted the cup from Cumann na mBunscol Secretary Cian Duffy, before the obligatory motor cavalcade around the parish and subsequent trip to Supermacs. Check out the snaps of our success!
