Success in Maiden Rounders Voyage

Following weeks of intensive training, both during, and after school, with our new teacher, Ms Hegarty, we travelled to Ballinlough on Thursday June 15th for our very first Cumann na mBunscol Rounders blitz. Our teams were made up of the 3rd and 4th class girls, while the 5th class boys joined the 3rd and 4th class boys to make sure we had enough numbers. We were very excited, so we brought Mr Fallon along too, just to keep us grounded – he’s a great motivator!! In spite of the terrible weather, we had a fabulous day; making new friends and having fun playing our new “favourite” sport.

Our girls team was very unlucky, losing out in their very first game to a strong Carrick NS team. They then played Abbeycarton in a challenge match (which they insist they won) Our boys, however, did really well, beating Abbeycarton in the first round, and then winning a cracker against Ballyforan 13-12 in the semi final to make it through to the final. Unfortunately, they met the experts from Castleplunkett NS in the final and were comprehensively beaten. Still, they did us proud, and they brought home medals on their very first outing. As Mr Fallon said, “It was the equivalent of learning to play hurling, and then meeting Kilkenny a week later!” To which he added, “We’ll play Castleplunkett in hurling next week, and see what happens!” Here are some photos from the day – unfortunately, the “official photographer” didn’t have any film in his camera that day!
